About Michaela Torrie Psychotherapy
Hello! I’m Michaela Torrie (MSW, RSW), a psychotherapist with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto (2018) and a Bachelor of Sociology degree from Chapman University (2015). For the past 7 years, I’ve worked as a clinician, primarily at a children’s mental health agency, where I have gained experience working with a range of diverse clients from children, teens and university students to parents, caregivers, and grandparents.
Four years ago, I began my private practice, focusing primarily on working with adults. I am passionate about helping people develop a better understanding of their early life experiences, the patterns that may be repeating, and supporting folks with building self-compassion. My approach is grounded in attachment-based and trauma informed therapies, and uses an anti-oppressive lens.
I draw from a range of therapeutic modalities to meet my clients’ unique needs, including:
-
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
-
Attachment and Relational Therapies (ex: Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy)
-
Internal Family System's Theory (IFS)
-
Theraplay
-
Trauma Assessment
-
Circle of Security
-
Structural Family Therapy
-
Brief Solution-Focused Therapy
-
Mindfulness and Expressive Arts
-
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
To ensure I provide the best possible care, I engage in my own therapy and participate in regular clinical supervision. I also love bringing humor into sessions and believe that nurturing joy and hope is just as important as holding space for the tender parts of life. I embrace the idea that two opposing things can be true at once, and I’m here to sit with you in the messy middle as we sort through all that brought you here today. Most importantly, I’ll be on your side - rooting for you through all of life's ups and downs.
If you’re looking for compassionate, evidence-based support tailored to your unique needs, I’d be honored to work with you.
